Obituary of William Nevich

William Nevich 92, of West Main Street, Johnstown, passed away Tuesday evening at St. Mary's Hospital. Born in Amsterdam on December 28, 1915, he was the last surviving child of William and Sophie Zabo Nevich. He attended local schools and was first employed by Mohasco. He later joined the US Navy where he learned the welding trade. He served as an aviation metalsmith 2nd class and repaired US planes that were damaged during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, William returned to the area and began a thirty seven year career as a welder first for the Naval Supply Depot in Scotia, and later the Watervliet Arsenal, retiring in 1981. He was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and was a member of the D.A.V. and Amvets. He was also a member of the former American Lithuanian Club. Bill was an avid golfer and fisherman. On October 5, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Virginia Crouse. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his daughter; Nancy Ann Warner of Oswego; a son; Thomas William Nevich of Johnstown; grandchildren; Megan and Neil Nevich, Austin and Forrest Warner; nieces and nephews and his beloved canine pal Tucker. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Bernard Nevich, John Cerne, Anna Ingham, and Helen Michalski. Services are at the convenience of the family at the Betz, Ross & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Fr. David Mickiewicz officiating. Interment will take place in St. Casimir's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made to St. Casimir's Memorial Fund, or the Fulton County SPCA both in care of the funeral home office.
