Obituary of Walter R. Tabor

Mr. Walter R. Tabor, age 85 of Mayfield, died Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, Gloversville. Walter was born on December 16, 1922 in Gloversville, the son of the late Arch and Ruth Starr Tabor. He was a member of the first graduating class of Mayfield High School, which took place in 1939. He later served his country in the US Navy during World War II. His employment at General Electric Company in Schenectady lasted for 40 years when he retired as an engineer. Mr. Tabor was a former member of the Mayfield Fire Dept. and the Mayfield Servicemen's Club. Walter loved to read and he enjoyed music. He adored his loving family, especially his wife of over 61 years, Harriette "Betty" Carpenter, whom he married on October 19, 1946. In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by his two children, David J. Tabor of Mayfield and Anne Lamy of Los Angeles, CA; his sister, Barbara Day of Mayfield; 5 grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours or services. Following cremation at ParkView Crematorium, final interment will take place at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mayfield Historical Society, P.O. Box 715, Mayfield, NY 12117 or to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
