Obituary of Isabelle Anna Turnbull Pullen

Isabelle Anna Turnbull Pullen R.N., 96, of Main St. Fultonville, NY passed away Sunday February 10, 2008 at the Mt. Loretto Nursing Home in Amsterdam. Born in Fultonville, NY on March 21, 1911 a daughter of William and Anna Shepherdson Turnbull. She was a lifelong Fultonville resident and was a 1929 Graduate of the former Fultonville Union Free School. She was a graduate of the former Amsterdam Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse in 1932. Isabelle worked for many years as a registered nurse mostly private duty. Mrs. Pullen also was employed as a Licensed Insurance Agent for the family business for over 50 years, the Frank D. Pullen Insurance and Real Estate Co. in Fultonville. She was a life long member and was very active in the Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church holding many offices. She will be remembered as active in the adult choir, the Willing Workers, the United Methodist Women and the many activities of the church. Committed to God's service and the health and life of the church. She was an active volunteer and volunteer coordinator for the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association. She was also a member of the Polio Society and their Board of Directors, the American Cancer Association and the Women's Advisory Board for Arkell Hall in Canajoharie, NY from 1963-1996 and was their first secretary. She also was the chaplain of the Nurses Alumni Association of the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She married Frank D. Pullen on July 8, 1932, they were married 70 years when he pre-deceased her on September 23, 2002. Survivor's include, One daughter, The Rev. Nancy Pullen of Albany, NY and One son Thomas L. Pullen of Fultonville, NY. Four Grandchildren, Deborah Humphrey Filkins of Castleton, NY and Judith Humphrey-Fox of Schenevus, NY, Regina Pullen Breton of Fonda and Frank D. Pullen of Seattle, Washington. Five Great-Grandchildren, Diana Filkins, Laura Filkins, Joshua Fox, Adam Fox and Jordan Hammond. Nieces, Nephews and cousins also survive. She was pre-deceased by a sister Bertella and brothers, Leonard, Robert, Douglas and James. Funeral services will be held on Thursday February 14, 2008 at 11:00A.M.Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church, Montgomery St., Fultonville, NY with Rev. Christopher Hamm presiding. Interment will be in Maple Ave Cemetery at a later date at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday February 13th, 2008 from 4:00 to 7:00P.M. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St. Fultonville, NY.
