Obituary of Carol E. Burrell

Mrs. Carol Burrell, 70, of New Street, Amsterdam, NY died peacefully Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at St, Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. Born on November 10, 1937 she was the daughter of the late Harold and Elizabeth Schaepe Everson. Carol was a lifelong area resident and a 1955 graduate of Amsterdam High School. She received her BA from Oneonta State and her MA from Boston University. Carol was employed for over 10 years for the Center for Disabilities Services in Glenville, NY as a teacher. Carol along with her husband Hugh also owned and operated Minaville Greenhouses and Mary & Bells Floral Shop for a time. Through her life, Carol participated in many clubs and organizations. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and Deacon and was a member of the Hand Bell Choir. She served on the Board of Lady Managers for The Sarah Jane Sanford Home for Women and was a past member of Zonta International. She also served on the Town of Florida Ladies Auxiliary. Carol touched many people and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh M. Burrell. Her loving family includes, her children, Hugh Burrell of Colorado, Lynne Van Eps and her husband Jim of Amsterdam and Doug Burrell of Colorado; she was the proud grandmother of Daniel, Andrew and Catherine Van Eps; three sisters, Jean Slocum and her husband Frank of Unadilla, NY, Mary Giles and her husband William of Buffalo, NY and Linda Everson of Amsterdam, NY; her dear friends of over 50 years, Anne DeGroff and Carol Quick; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 11 o'clock at the United Presbyterian Church, 25 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. Roland "Mac" McDonald presiding. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4 until 7 Friday evening at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the United Presbyterian Church for the Hand Bell Choir.
