Obituary of Perry A. Vickers

Perry A. Vickers III, 65, of State Highway 107 and Pinellar Park, Fl., passed away Monday morning at the North Side Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida after a short illness, with his loving family at his side. He was born on August 24, 1942, the son of the late Perry A. and Emily Dreaney Vickers, II. Perry was a life long Perth resident and he was a graduate of Perth High school. Perry started his career in the leather glove industry and was employed by numerous leather companies in the Johnstown area. He later worked as a machinist for the General Electric Company in Schenectady until he was transferred to the General Electric Albany Services where he also served as President and Vice President of the Union Local 303. He retired in 1998 from General Electric. Perry was a past member of the Perth Volunteer Fire Department; Assistant Manager of Little League Baseball in Perth and was an Assistant Scout Leader of the Boy Scouts of America in Perth. He enjoyed playing in the dart league and horse shoe league in the Perth area. He was a member of many hunting and fishing clubs in the area and also enjoyed boating on Sacandaga Lake. Perry loved spending time with his family and going to Florida during the winter months. On September 26, 1964 Perry married the former Joan A. Austin. Besides his wife he is also survived by two sons PerryJuddA. Vickers IV and wife Laurie and Mark W. Vickers all of Perth; two granddaughters, Kassandra and Giovanna Vickers; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008, at 2:00 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Greg De Salvatore officiating. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 12 noon to 2:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made in Perry's memory to the Perth Volunteer Fire Department, 4080 state Highway 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
