Obituary of Donald W. Stevens

Donald W. Stevens Sr., 80, of Park Street, passed away Sunday evening at his home with his loving family at his side. Born June 4, 1927 in Central Bridge, New York, he was the son of the late Floyd and Beatrice Goodfellow Stevens. He attended Fultonville schools. Don was a U.S. Army- Air force Veteran of WWII. He was first was employed by the Fultonville Machine & Tool Company and later he worked for 30 years at the General Electric Company in Schenectady retiring as a foreman in 1987. Don was a member of the Fultonville United Methodist Church for 68 years; member of the Board and Treasurer of the Maple Avenue Cemetery Association; member of the Fultonville Volunteer Fire Department for 54 years and served as Treasurer; he was the Fire Coordinator for Montgomery County when that position was first started and he was a member and volunteer for the former F.F.A.V.A.C.. Don loved being a grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also was very active in the community. For over 50 years Don was married to the former Ruth M. Rose. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Dawn Arminio Michael of Amsterdam and Donita Crankshaw Brian of Johnstown; a sister, Patricia Snyder George of Fultonville; three grandchildren, April, Alexandra and Matthew; two great grandchildren, Caleb and Taylor; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Don was predeceased by his son Donald W. Stevens Jr. who passed away in 1982. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at 11:00 am at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville with the Rev. Nancy Pullen officiating. Burial will take place in Maple Avenue Cemetery. Calling hours will be held today from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Don's memory to the Maple Avenue Cemetery Association C/O the funeral home or to the Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY, 12078.
