Obituary of Aloysius Louis Spagnola

Mr. Aloysius Louis "Pops" Spagnola, 87, of Catherine St., Amsterdam, passed away Monday January 7, 2008 at St. Mary s Hospital in Amsterdam with his loving family at his side. Born in Amsterdam, NY on November 6, 1920 a son of Michael and Rose Tangredi Spagnola. He was a lifelong area resident and was educated locally. Mr. Spagnola was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving with the Seabees during World War II. After the war Mr. Spagnola held various sales positions during his career. He retired from New York State in 1985. He was a communicant of St. Stephen s Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman, NY. Mr. Spagnola was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He always did everything for his family who were the love of his life. He had a great sense of humor was quick with a joke. He also had a way of making everyone he came in contact with to feel special. Louis married Katherine A. Gray Spagnola on April 17, 1944. They were married for 61 years until the time of her passing on May 23, 2005. Survivors include a son, Clement M. Spagnola and his wife Gloria of Hagaman; two daughters, Lynda L. Spagnola and Susan M. Russo and her husband Jim both of Amsterdam; Step Mother in Law- Anna Gray of Johnstown, brother, Anthony Spagnola; sister, Pasqualena Lena Piarno; 8 grandchildren, Michael Spagnola, Wendy Spagnola, Kelly Glionna and her husband Richard, Brandon Spagnola and his companion Katie Antos, Darby Vedder and his wife Allison, Tera Aldi and her husband Richard, Dylan Vedder, and Amanda Russo; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by a special friend of the family, Yadira Rodriguez. He was pre-deceased by a brother Michael Spagnola on June 13, 2004. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday January 9th, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephens Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman with the Rev. Ronald Matulewicz as celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Albany Medical Center Children s Hospital, 43 New Scotland Ave, Albany, NY 12208. Private inurnment will be held in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
