Obituary of Bernice D. Moineau

Bernice D. Moineau, 96, formerly of Sharon Springs, passed away peacefully January 5, 2008 at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. Born on March 22, 1911 to Euclid and Ethel Lyke Moineau, she was a graduate of Sharon Springs High School. After graduation, Bernice worked at the Post Office in town. Later she was employed by Beech- Nut in Canajoharie for over 30 years, where she was a loyal member of the 25 year club. Bernice was a gentle soul who loved life. One of her greatest joys was taking a walk in the woods and picking wild flowers. Very often she would gather such flowers, and decorate the alter at her beloved church, St. Mary?s for Sunday Mass. She also loved to travel, taking trips to the Vatican and Ireland, among her favorite destinations. In later years, she would spend her winters, in Florida, with her sister, Sylvia Alpaugh, now deceased. In 2000 she became a resident of Arkell Hall in Canajoharie. Bernice enjoyed people and loved to socialize throughout her life. Her catholic faith was a mainstream throughout her entire life, and went to mass almost daily where ever she was. She was truly a gift and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Her family includes, her cousins, George Athanas and Barbara Smith, and their families; her devoted and loving God Child, Bonnell Kaido; dear friends, Genevieve Smerski and Sarah Smith; and her extended family at Arkell Hall. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday, January 9, 2008 from 2 until 4 at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, where a Legacy Candle Ceremony will be held at 3:30p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 11a.m. at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Sharon Springs, with the Rev. John Roos as celebrant. Interment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one?s choice.
