Obituary of Theodore M. Valachovic

Theodore ?Teddy? Valachovic, 75, of Jockeyville Estates, passed away Friday, January 4, 2008 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home in Gloversville after a courageous battle with Alzheimer?s disease. He was born December 21, 1932 to the late Michael K. and Dorothy Hilly Valachovic. Teddy was a graduate of Gloversville High School and later attended Albany Business College where he studied accounting. He joined the United States Army and served his country in Korea from 1956 to 1958. He was later employed by the U.S. Postal Service where he worked as a letter carrier for forty years until his retirement in 2004. He loved horse racing and enjoyed spending time at the OTB. Teddy was a member of the Letter Carrier?s Union, and was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Gloversville. Teddy is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lasher, whom he married December 28, 1975. Other survivors include two sons: Michael J. Lisa Valachovic of Gloversville and John Valachovic of Henderson, Nevada; one daughter: Theresa William Garland of Mechanicville; three stepchildren: Nancy James Pellegrino of Colleyville, Texas, Edward Collie and Victor Collie, Jr. both of Austin, Texas; a brother-in-law, Peter Kakareka of Howe?s Cave; an uncle, Gordon Arlene Hilly of Gloversville and an aunt, Betty Hilly of Clifton Park, twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several cousins. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Kakareka, who died in 1973. A memorial mass will be held Wednesday, January 9, at 10 am at Sacred Heart Church in Gloversville with the Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak as celebrant. There will be no calling hours. Cremation will take place at Park View Crematorium in Schenectady. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Valachovic?s memory to the Alzheimer?s Association, 85 Watervliet Ave. Albany, NY 12206-2083 or to the James Brennan Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville 12078.
