Obituary of Caroline Smith

Caroline Smith, 90, formerly of Mohawk Drive, Tribes Hill, NY passed away Wednesday December 12, 2007 at the Masonic Care Community Skilled Nursing Facility in Utica where she had resided for three weeks. Born in Amsterdam, NY on June 15, 1917 a daughter of Walter and Helen Latta Thackrah. She was a resident of Amsterdam for many years and was a graduate of Amsterdam schools. Caroline was employed for many years as an organist at the former Elm Tree Hall Restaurant in Fort Plain NY. She also worked later at Ward Products in Amsterdam as a labeler and retired in 1982. She enjoyed crocheting and taking care of her pet cats. She was a member of the former Ft. Hunter Methodist Church and the former Ft. Johnson Methodist Church. She was a member also of the Sir William Johnson Seniors. Caroline was first married to Henry Yostmeyer on June 28, 1941, he died on July 7, 1956. She later married Roland H. Smith Sr. in 1968. He died on April 25, 1991. Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Lee McKnight and her husband Norman M. McKnight of Mohawk, NY. Two grandsons, Norman H. McKnight Tammy of Mohawk, NY and William J. McKnight and his wife Shelly McKnight of Richfield Springs, NY. Two great grandchildren, Jordan and Brandon McKnight. She was pre-deceased by her daughter Lorene Jessie Yostmeyer and a brother, Leonard Thackrah. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday December 15, 2007 at 11:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with the Rev. Greg DeSalvatore presiding. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday beginning at 10:00A.M. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. The Sir William Johnson Senior will gather to meet on Saturday at the funeral home at 10:00A.M. Memorial contributions may be made to G.A.V.A.C. P.O.
