Obituary of Antimo Spagnola

Mr. Antimo ?Moe? Spagnola, 65 years old, of University Place, died Thursday at his home. Mr. Spagnola was born June 13, 1942, a son of Louis and Grace Patitucci Spagnola and was a life long resident of Amsterdam. He was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School and of the Albany Business College. He had been employed as an accountant with Beech-Nut in Canajoharie for two years. Mr. Spanola then went to work for Labor Local 157, working many jobs in the Amsterdam area. He also worked as a mutual clerk at Saratoga Racetrack for 20 years. Moe loved his family. His confinement to a wheelchair never interfered with his attendance at his grandchildren?s sporting events. Moe kept a close eye on his neighborhood and always had a friendly word for his neighbors. He owned and trained horses and enjoyed watching them run at Saratoga. He also took great pleasure in watching his sons? horses race. Moe was a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church. Survivors in addition to his mother are: his wife, the former Dorothy Lewis, whom he married June 28, 1964, his sons: Robert Nancy Spagnola and Brian Tammy Spagnola, both of Amsterdam; his brother: Louis Donna Spagnola of Amsterdam; nine grandchildren: Brian, Steve and Patrick Purtell, Josh, Sam, Robbie, Max, Antonio and Andrew Spagnola; his niece Rebecca Catena and his nephew Matt Spagnola. Also surviving are aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held 8:30am Monday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed at 9:15am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary?s Church. Burial is in St. Casimir?s Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2 until 6:00pm at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made: Amsterdam Baseball Club, P.O. Box 334, Amsterdam, NY 12010. A tribute to Moe will be erected at Shuttleworth Park.
