Obituary of William A. Nowak

William A. Nowak Jr., 76, formerly of Tribes Hill, NY passed away November 14, 2007 at the Edward L. Wilkinson RHCF. Born in Amsterdam on April 7, 1931 he was the son of the late William A. Nowak Sr. and Edith Dylong. He was a lifelong area resident and a 1949 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1953-1955. Bill had a long career in sales, starting out working for his father in the shirt industry. He then later worked for Metropolitan Life before retiring from U First Uniform Company in Latham, as a sales manager. Bill was an avid fisherman and an outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping and being with his family in the Adirondacks. He was a loving husband and father and will be missed by all who knew him. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Tribes Hill, a member of the American Legion and a member and past president of the Watervliet Fish & Game Club. His loving family includes his wife of 55 years, the former Elsie Thompson, whom he married on October 5, 1952; three daughters; Elizabeth Tybor of Auriesville, Laura Nowak of Petaluma, CA, Judith Ann Califano Don of Albany; two sons, Mark Nowak Lisa Butterfield of Tribes Hill, James Nowak Karen of Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Elizabeth Nowak of Rochester, MN; one brother Robert Nowak Doris of Tribes Hill; seven grandchildren, Melissa, Tracy, Paula, Roberta, Nicholas, Kassi, Kyra; five great grandchildren, Skyler, Emily, Joe, Anthony, Amie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A prayer service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at 9a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 3rd Avenue, Tribes Hill with the Rev. Patrick Gallagher OFM Conv. as celebrant. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery with military honors. Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening from 4 until 7 at the funeral home, where a Legacy Candle Ceremony will take place at 6:45p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Bill?s memory to the American Cancer Society or the church in care of the funeral home.
