Obituary of John C. Konik

Mr. John C. Konik Sr. 86, passed away on Saturday November 10, 2007 at Nathan Littauer Hospital.Born January 15, 1921 in Little Falls, he was the son of the late John and Mary Holodryga Konik. A Gloversville resident most of his life, he had lived in Johnstown the past two years. Mr. Konik was a graduate of Gloversville High School where he excelled both as a student and in basketball. After graduation he joined his father in the family leather business for a short time. He then enlisted in the Army, serving in Central Europe including Normandy, Northern France and Sicily. Upon discharge from the Army in 1945, he continued his education at the former Triple Cities College in Endicott, N.Y. where he received a degree in Economics. Early in his working career he had been employed in the office at Gloversville Knitting Mills, followed by a similar position at Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam. He retired in 1986 after 26 years as an office manager with the former Coleco Industries. John was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Catholic War Veterans, where he had been an active member for many years, serving on the bingo program and as a member of the bowling league. Earlier in his life he had also been a coach and manager for the Gloversville Little League. After retirement, he and his wife Adelene enjoyed many winters in Port Charlotte, Florida where they formed many new and lasting friendships. A devoted family man, his grandchildren were always a great source of joy for him. He lived his life simple and honest, always treating people with kindness and respect, and receiving the same from others. He will be sadly missed. He is survived by his wife Adelene ?Addie? Mastrangelo Roach Konik of Johnstown whom he married August 21, 1948; his children: John C. Connie Konik Jr. of Caroga Lake, N.Y., Jan Marie Konik of Binghamton, N.Y. and Barbara Ann Neil Theiss of Katy, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Michael, Christopher, Daniel, Jonathon, Alexander and Ariel; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Konik was pre-deceased by his brother Michael ?Mitch? Konik, and sisters Marion Johnson, Ann Velicky and Olga Marotta. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church in Gloversville with Reverend Donald Czelusniak, Pastor, as celebrant. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
