Obituary of Walter Mark Hyson

Walter Mark Hyson, Jr., 55, of Schoharie Turnpike passed away peacefully Saturday evening, October 20, 2007 surrounded by his loving family and close friends following a six month battle with abdominal cancer. He was born in Schenectady on January 19, 1952 son of Walter Mark Hyson, Sr. and the late Ursula Minkler Hyson. Walt was a lifelong resident of the Schenectady area and was a Mount Pleasant High School graduate. His greatest joys were his family, friends, camp at Sacandaga, his boat, his dogs and his work. He was a devoted husband, father and friend who, was loved by many. For years, Walt enjoyed Harley motorcycles and still carries his tattoos on his arms although he has retired the leather jacket and helmet. Professionally, Walt became a glazier who worked in wholesale and retail for many years before venturing into his own successful business, Turnpike Glass, under the new ownership of his longtime friend, Scott Davignon. Walt?s most enigmatic gift was the truly special way in which he expressed his friendship with gentleness, kindness and compassion. He will also be remembered for his love of nature and the outdoors, his gentle ways, his polite mannerisms, his unfaltering faith, his commitment to friends and family, and his love of mankind. Walt will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His loving family includes his father, Walter M. Hyson, Sr., of Schenectady, his wife of 22 years, the former Heike Will, whom he married on August 3, 1991, his two children, Nicholas, 14, and Katelyn, 12, all of Delanson, his sisters, Linda Walker of South Carolina and Nancy Jordan of Saratoga, and his brother, Peter Hyson of Schenectady. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Walter will be at 11:00AM on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at St. John?s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 140 Maple Avenue, Altamont, NY 12009. The family will receive relatives and friends two hours prior to the service on Saturday from 9:00AM to 11:00AM at the church. A gathering of family and friends will be held following the service at Jonathan?s in Duanesburg. Contributions in Walt?s memory may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
