Obituary of Margaret R. Louison

Margaret R. Koch Louison, wife, mother, grandmother and L.P.N., 92, formerly of Van Dyke Ave, Amsterdam, passed away Wednesday evening at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam where she had been a resident for the past 3 ½ years. Born in Amsterdam, NY on June 19, 1915 a daughter of John and Agnes Going Koch. She was a lifelong area resident and was a 1933 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. For over 65 years Mrs. Louison lived on Van Dyke Ave in Amsterdam in the home her husband built. Her granddaughter Laura, husband Ken and their children live there today. Mrs. Louison was employed as a telephone operator for the former New York Telephone Co. in Amsterdam for over 10 years. She is credited for convincing her son in law to go to work for the telephone company and to this day he is very thankful for that opportunity. At age 46, after raising her children, Margaret and her sister, Nora Hardies, went back to school to become Licensed Practical Nurses at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. She worked as a maternity nurse. To this day people still thank her for her hard work and dedication. Margaret was a loving mother, wife, homemaker and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always made sure everyone was well fed in her home and she made the best homemade apple pie. She loved to play cards, do word searches and pray the Rosary. Margaret was a member of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and was a member of the former St. Joseph?s Rosary Society. She married her husband Arne Louison on March 2, 1935 he passed away on July 30, 1975. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Anne Luffman William of Amsterdam. Four sons, Arne Louison Yoshiko of New Jersey, Michael James Louison Amelia of Amsterdam, James Louison Mary Ann of Amsterdam and Mark Louison Gail of Amsterdam. One sister, Nora Hardies of Amsterdam and a sister-in-law Madge Gastwirth. Nine grandchildren, Mark Louison Mary, Alan Louison Lynda, Eric Louison Tammy, Arne LouisonCandace Laura Brittain Kenneth, Lars Luffman Marcy, Lynn Cipriano Ronald. Leif Luffman Sherry and Dena CoffeyRichard. 20 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Margaret also leaves behind her lifetime friend Sophie Aresko of Amsterdam. Mrs. Louison was preceded in death by her children, Edward and Lynn Agnes, and most recently Robert Louison in 1986. She was also pre-deceased by two bothers, John and William Koch, three sisters, Orcelia Perkins, Mary McNamara and Catherine Jablonski and her dear cousin John G. Betz, founder of the Betz Funeral Home. Margaret?s children at this time would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility for the wonderful care given to their Mom. Funeral services will be held on Monday October 22, 2007 at 8:15A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc. 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15A.M. at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Pascal Iannotti as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday October 21, 2007 from 2:00 to 5:00P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Robert Louison Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home.
