Obituary of Richard W. Becker

Richard W. Becker ?Uncle Dick?, 93, died at his home Tuesday, October 16. He was born September 3, 1914 in Gloversville to the late Floyd W. and Pearl Lory Becker. He graduated from Gloversville High School in 1932. Richard worked in several area glove factories as a sewing mechanic, working much of his career at Premier Glove in Fultonville and retiring from Fownes Gloves in Amsterdam in 1989. He enjoyed sailing on the Sacandaga, having his first boat in 1931 and retiring his last in 1995. He also loved woodworking, especially making windmills. Richard was a forty year member of the Johnstown Moose, serving as Governor. He was also a member of the former Forester?s Lodge, a Boy Scout Master and a member of the Foothills United Methodist Church. He is survived by two half-sisters, Dorothy Waddle Orman and June Becker, both of Gloversville and several nieces and nephews. Richard is predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Henrietta Cromer Becker, whom he married on June 26, 1936 and his son, James W. Becker. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Donations may be made in Richard?s memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville 12078.
