Obituary of Mary Breslin Strevy

Mary Breslin Strevy, 88, a longtime resident of Amsterdam including Park Hill Adult Home, entered into eternal life on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Edward L. Wilkinson RHCF in Amsterdam where she had been a resident for the past ten months. Mary was born in Amsterdam on December 10, 1918 daughter of the late Margaret Conlon Breslin and Thomas Breslin. She was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and the Albany State Teachers College where she earned her bachelors and masters degrees in education. After a lengthy career as a business teacher in the Greater Amsterdam School District, she married William E. Strevy, Jr., and became the manager of Strevy Apartments in Fort Hunter. Mary was a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband and sisters, Louise Theresa Blood and Margaret Mroczko. Survivors include her step-children, Mary Jane Paul Parillo of Amsterdam, Karen Strevy of Fort Hunter, Barbara Billington of Tribes Hill, and William E. Denise Strevy, III of Fort Hunter, her sisters, Ellen M. Hiscox of Scotia and Gertrude Theisen of Terra Haute, IN. Several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. A follower of fashion and a practitioner of social graces, Mary was truly the ?Hostess with the Mostess? renown for the elegant manner in which she entertained guests at holiday gatherings and the opulent offerings at the dinner table. For respite from her labors, she indulged her talents as an accomplished gardener. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam with Rev. Anthony and Rev. James Gulley concelebrating the mass. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, prior to the mass, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, 12010. Interment will be at 11:00AM on Friday, July 6, 2007 at St. Mary?s Cemetery in Fort Johnson. Donations in Mary?s memory may be made to Park Hill Adult Home, 52 Grove Street, Amsterdam, NY or to Edward L. Wilkinson RHCF, 4999 Route 30, Amsterdam, NY.
