Obituary of Donald E. Tesiero

Donald E. Tesiero, 82, of Golf Course Road, passed away Thursday at his home with his loving family at his side. Born January 28, 1925 in Amsterdam, New York, he was the son of the late James and Christine Efland Tesiero. At the age of 17, Don volunteered for service in the United States Marine Corps, shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He participated in the invasion of Saipan and Okinawa. After the war, Don completed high school, graduating from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1947. He graduated from the Albany College of Pharmacy in 1951. Don owned and operated the Tesiero?s Professional Apothecary and Surgical Shop in Amsterdam, where he served both as a pharmacist and orthopedic fitter for nearly forty years. He was a past member of the Amsterdam Rotary Club, coached Little Giants Football, held a private pilot?s license, and was an expert skier and swimmer. He was also a member of the Marine League, the VFW, the American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. He loved the Adirondacks and once climbed Mt. Marcy. He was also a world traveler, visiting six of the seven continents, including Antarctica. On August 2, 1953, he married the former Janet Long. Besides his wife, survivors include three sons, Thomas E. Tesiero of Amsterdam, Donald E. Tesiero of Jacksonville, FL and James E. Tesiero of Shrewsbury, MA; two daughters, Donna L. Tesiero of Boston, MA and Dawn L. Kolodziej of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren, Janet Rose Kolodziej, Maria Cohn, Donald Tesiero Cohn, Susan Tesiero, Lisa Cohn, Ronald Kolodziej, Thomas Cohn, Donald E. ?Trey? Tesiero III, Marie Tesiero, and a new grandchild on the way. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Don was predeceased by six siblings: Leroy Tesiero, James Tesiero, Doris Cowsert, John ?Jack? Tesiero, Richard Tesiero, and Joan Potts. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 25, 2007, at 8:15 AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:15 AM at the St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam. Burial will take place in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY with full military honors. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM at the funeral home. A time of remembrance will commence at 4:30 PM.
