Obituary of Jean Davey

Jean Agresta Davey 95, formerly of VanDyke Avenue, passed away peacefully Saturday evening at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility with her family at her side. Born in Amsterdam on June 18, 1911, she was one of ten children born to Joseph and Rosalina Pirfo Agresta. At the age of three, she moved with her family to Pisciotta, Province Of Salerno, Italy where she remained for the next nine years. Following her return to Amsterdam where she was educated, Jean began her long career as a seamstress working for several local companies including Mohawk Sportswear. She was an active volunteer for both St. Mary?s Institute and the former Bishop Scully High School. A wonderful cook, she not only fed her own family, but many local doctors and priests as well. Jean will be remembered as a loving matriarch who loved to garden, play pinochle and make pizza. Each of her grandchildren was welcomed into the world with a special hand made afghan crocheted by Jean herself. She was a parishioner of both St. Michael The Archangel and St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Churches, and was a member of the Santa Sofia Society. On March 8, 1942 she was united in marriage to John T. ?Jack? Davey Sr. He passed away on January 3, 2000. Her loving family includes her children; Winnie Mae Teabout of Temecula, Ca., Jack T. Jr. and his wife Joanne Davey of Amsterdam, and Rosalie and her husband Daniel Farrington of Rotterdam Jct.; her brother; Frank Agesta of Schenectady; twenty three grandchildren, twenty -one great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her siblings, Anthony, Daniel, Vito and Michael Agresta; Christine Fariello, Sophie Lathers, Angeline Petrucci and Carmella Marcellino. The family gratefully acknowledges the third floor staff at Wilkinson for all the care and concern that they have shown to Jean and to them as well. Services are Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 am at St. Mary?s Church. Fr. Brian List celebrant. Interment is in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to St. Mary?s Institute, in care of the funeral home office.
