Obituary of Charles P. Vande Voorde

Mr. Charles P. Vande Voorde, age 57 of Gloversville, died Thursday evening, May 24, 2007 at his home with his fiancée at his bedside. He had fought a courageous battle with cancer. Charlie was born on May 14, 1950 in Lyons, NY, the son of John and Ruth Becker Vande Voorde. He lived in Mansfield, Ohio for several years, then in Oswego, New York for 21 years, and came to Gloversville five years ago. He was an electrician, employed by IBEW Local #688 and #43 of Syracuse, where he retired in 2004. He has worked since retirement at Grandoe Gloves in Gloversville. Mr. Vande Voorde loved motorcycles, hunting and fishing. He attended Saint Mary of Mount Carmel Church. He is survived by his fiancée Maria A. Hallenbeck and her three children, Christopher M. Hallenbeck, Michael E. Hallenbeck and Kolin S. Hallenbeck; two children, Matt Vande Voorde of Seattle, Washington and Jennifer Crotty of Butler, Ohio; his father, John Vande Voorde of Clifton Springs, New York; his mother, Ruth Buffum of Sodus, New York; two brothers, Richard Vande Voorde and John Vande Voorde of Florida; a sister, Mary Guchone of Newark, New York; four grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Vande Voorde. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 6 pm Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted 9:15 am Wednesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Gloversville. The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude?s Children's Cancer Research Hospital, P.O. Box 3704, Memphis, TN 38103.
