Obituary of Leo H. Kardash

Leo H. Kardash, 83, of Tilton Road, Palatine Bridge, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born on October 30, 1923 in St. Johnsville he was the son of the late Harry and Victoria Fronczek Kardash. He was a lifelong area resident and was a 1942 Graduate of St. Johnsville High School. Later that year he went to work for Lifesavers in Canajoharie, which spanned a career of over 47 years, until his retirement in 1988. In November of 1948 Leo joined with the United States Army and served until he was discharged in 1949. He then with a great pride for his nation joined with the reserves, and continued to serve his country for ten years, until he was honorably discharged. On May 20, 1950 he was united in marriage to the former Arlene E. Johnson, at St. Peter & Paul?s Roman Catholic Church. Together for over 57 years they raised a family and made their home on Tilton Road. Leo enjoyed gardening, small trips with his wife, was an avid baseball fan, and loved his family. Survivors include his wife; his children, Elaine and Alan Kardash, both of Palatine Bridge; a brother, Frank Kardash and his wife Francis of Ft. Plain; one granddaughter, Shelley Latreille and her husband Nicholas of Clifton Park; a niece and nephew and several friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 11a.m. at St. Peter & Paul?s Roman Catholic Church, Cliff Street, Canajoharie, with the Rev. William Gaffigan as celebrant. Interment will take place at Palatine Cemetery, near his homestead. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church. Arrangements are by Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY.
