Obituary of Robert James McClary

Robert James McClary, age 80, of Gloversville, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2007. He was born January 21, 1927 in Gloversville, NY, the son of John and Marietta Wells McClary. He Attended Gloversville High School, graduating in 1947. Bob Served in the occupation forces in Japan 1949-1950. He was a Councilman for the city of Gloversville for eight years and also served as deputy mayor for two years. Bob was employed by General Electric Co. for 39 years, retiring as a production foreman. He was a member of Fremont Street United Methodist Church. As head usher and member of the board of trustees, he directed many church dinners. As a member of the Methodist Men's organization, he participated at National Methodist Men's meetings at Purdue University. He was also a member of Gloversville Sports Booster Club. Bob enjoyed camping with his R.V., having traveled across the country and seeing its National Parks. He loved to fish with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He was a Mets fan and was very proud of his own gardening skills. On January 27, 1951, Robert was married to Marion Heroth McClary who passed away November 13, 1997. Survivors include his son, Michael J. McClary of Chicago, IL; his daughter, Melinda L. Rockwell of Gloversville; sister, Ida Walker of Scotia; grandchildren, Jason Knapp and Marissa Knapp; nephew, Gregory Walker and niece, Mary Beth. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald McClary. Services will be Monday at 11:00 AM at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville with Rev. Wendell H. Elmendorf, Jr. officiating. Interment will take place at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in Robert?s memory to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.
