Obituary of Carmella Karchesky

Carmella Turo Karchesky, 77, of Slater Street, Amsterdam, entered eternal rest on her 77th Birthday, Monday May 14, 2007 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, New York on May 14, 1930. She was a daughter of Frank and Angelina Ciarmella Turo. She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Mrs. Karchesky worked for many years at the former Mohawk Sportswear Company in Amsterdam and later worked for the General Electric Company in Scotia as a correlater at the Scotia Distribution Center. Mrs. Karchesky was also a homemaker for many years caring for her loving family. She was a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She was an avid bowler in Friday afternoon leagues in Amsterdam and loved crafts, sewing and just enjoyed being with her family. She married Lawrence Karchesky on January 21, 1953. He passed away on November 24, 2004. Survivors include two sons, Edward Karchesky and his wife Shirley of Amsterdam, NY, James Karchesky and his wife Mary of Gulfport, MS. Two daughters, Carol Ann Johnson and her husband Donald of Amsterdam, Janet Clairmont and her husband Paul of Ballston Lake, NY. Six sisters, Elizabeth Hroncich of Amsterdam, Nancy Oullette of Amsterdam, Teresa Ruggeri of Johnstown, NY & Susan Roszak & her husband Stanley of Hagaman, NY, Mary Natole of Amsterdam and Edith Furman of Amsterdam. Dear sisters-in-law, Antoinette Turo & Betty DeForest. Seven grandchildren, Patrick Johnson and his companion Jolene Laska, Jessica Haley and her husband Frank Haley Jr., Dan Karchesky, Ryan Karchesky, William Karchesky, Kimberly and Steven Clairmont. Three great-grandchildren, Dominic Buckley, Taylor Buckley and Emily Johnson. Several nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends also survive. She was predeceased by her brothers, Angelo, Vincent & Anthony Turo. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 18, 2007 at 8:15A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15A.M. at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, Main St. Amsterdam, NY. Interment will be in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday May 17, 2007 from 5:00-8:00P.M. at the funeral home.
