Obituary of Joseph G. DeStefano

Joseph G. DeStefano 84, of the High Rise Apartments, Wall Street passed away Saturday evening at Albany Medical Center with his family at his side. Born in Amsterdam on June 10, 1922, the son of Frank and Josephine Giuliani DeStefano , he was educated locally and lived here his entire life. Joe worked for over thirty years as a manager for the A&P Company and later for ten years at Nichol?s Discount Home Center. In retirement, he worked as a part time deliveryman for Damiano?s Flowers. During World War II, he served his country as a gunner?s mate for the United States Navy. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church. For many years, Joe enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida with family and friends. He leaves his daughters; Joana M. Benson of Hollywood, Fla. And Mary A. and her husband John Sidlauskas of Derry, New Hampshire; grandchildren; Lisa Schultz and Floyd Benson; great grandchildren; Jon and Marc Schultz, Cody and Anjelina Benson; and Brianne and Destiny Bruneau; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe was predeceased by a brother; Barney DeStefano and his sisters; Marion Scafidi and Rose Falzo. Services are Thursday at 8:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Interment is in St. Michael?s Cemetery with military honors. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Fisher House, in care of the funeral home
