Obituary of Dorothy E. Florimo

Dorothy E. Florimo 84, of Hayes Place, passed away Monday morning at her home. Born in Amsterdam on July 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Agnes Flanagan Welch and was a 1940 graduate of St. Mary?s Institute. She worked for a time at the former Empire Market and it was there that she met her future husband Robert. He later entered World War II, and upon his discharge in 1946, they were married. That union lasted for fifty five years until his passing in 2001. Dorothy was employed for many years as a customer service clerk for Holzheimer And Shaul before she retired in 1984. She was a parishioner of St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the St. Mary?s and St. Michael?s Seniors. Her family was her life, and her loving Irish smile will always be remembered. An avid reader, Dorothy also loved to travel with her husband following their retirement. Her loving family includes her children; Theresa Konieczka and her fiancé Peter Young of Amsterdam, Roberta and her husband Rick Hancock of Yorktown, Virginia, and Robert Florimo Jr. and his wife Nancy of Mechanicsville, Virginia; her grandchildren, Michelle Jamie Ward, Theresa Brett Droszd, Sierra Hancock, and Angela and Samantha Florimo; her great grandchildren, Bailey and Joseph Ward; her brother, Joseph Dorothy Welch of Richland, Wash. Her sister in law Ermenia Florimo of Amsterdam; and nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her brothers, Bernard and Charles Welch, and a sister, Mary Boerner. Services are Thursday at 8:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Michael The Archangel Church. Fr. Lawrenec J. Decker, celebrant. Interment is in St. Michael?s Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
