Obituary of Donald L. Countryman

Donald L. Countryman, 69, of North Terrace, Fort Plain, NY passed away Friday April 6, 2007 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Albany, NY. Born in Flat Creek, NY on October 30, 1937 a son of Romain and Clara Kougher Countryman. Mr. Countryman attended Canajoharie Schools and was a High School Graduate. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a combat veteran. After the war he worked for the Village of Fort Plain Department of Public Works in various capacities and also was employed by the former Life Savers Co. before its closing. He last worked part time at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home. Mr. Countryman was a member of the VFW Mohawk Valley Post of Fort Plain and a member of the Canajoharie Moose Lodge. Donald enjoyed hunting and fishing and being outdoors. He also enjoyed dancing and going out to play bingo. Donald was a family man. He loved just being around his family and friends especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He married Helen M. Pitcavage Countryman on April 25, 1959. In addition to his wife of 48 years survivor?s include, One son, Bruce S. Countryman of Syracuse, NY. Two daughters, Clara L. Weiner Roger of Ft. Johnson, NY and Cindy M. Reid Ralph of Palatine Bridge, NY. Two brothers, Crawford Countryman Barb of Highland, NY and Robert Countryman Florence of Rural Grove, NY. Six grandchildren, Joshua and Bryan Dresser, Courtney and Megan Weiner, Greg and Shane Reid. Four Great Grandchildren, Bethany and Makayla, Seth and Anika. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Donald was preceded in death by a brother Richard Countryman. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 10, 2007 at 10:00A.M. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St. Canajoharie, NY with the Rev. Brett Popp presiding. Interment will be in Ft. Plain Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday April 9, 2007 from 4:00P.M. to 7:00P.M. at the funeral home.
