Obituary of Lena G. Degnan

Lena G. Degnan, 91, who resided at F.C.R.H.C.F., passed away Sunday, March 11, 2007 at Nathan Littauer Hospital following a long illness. She was born March 18, 1915 in Gloversville, daughter of Warren W. Gifford and Mabel Dodge Gifford. Lena was a life long resident of Gloversville and a member of Sacred Heart Church since 1941. One of Lena's favorite pastimes was making photo albums of various family events. She also enjoyed traveling, sewing and crocheting plus spending time with family and friends. Early in her career, Lena was a bookkeeper at J. J. Newberry & Co. and bookkeeper and personnel manager at F. W. Woolworth Co. She was Fulton County Deputy Commissioner of Jurors from 1954 to 1966 and Commissioner of Jurors from 1966 to 1977 when she retired. She was past president of the New York State Commissioner of Jurors Association and past president of the Commissioner of Jurors Association of the 4th Judicial District. She served two terms as President of the Fulton County Women's Republican Club and was a member of the Fulton County Civil Service Employees Association CSEA retirees association. Before retirement, she was appointed to the Court Reorganization Committee of the New York Association of Counties. Lena was also a past member of the Gloversville Eagle?s Club and recently served as President of residential council at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility. On June 29, 1940 she married Stanley L. Degnan who died April 22, 1992. She is survived by her three children, Patricia A. Steffens of Syracuse, David A. Degnan and wife Kathleen of Gloversville and Joan M. Ciaccio and husband Guy F. also of Gloversville; seven grandchildren, David Degnan, Michael Degnan, Brad Degnan and wife JoAnn, Daniel Degnan, Thomas Ciaccio and wife Gina, Christopher Ciaccio, and Lindsay Frattura and husband Kevin; five great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A prayer service will be held 9:15 am Wednesday from the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street and at 10 am a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church with Reverend Donald Czelusniak, Pastor, as celebrant. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Upstate New York Chapter Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, 14 Summit Rd., Delmar, NY 12054.
