Obituary of Louise Albanese Hopkins

Mrs. Louise Albanese Hopkins, 93, formerly of Gloversville, died Monday, March 5, 2007 after a long illness. She was born April 19, 1913 in Gloversville, daughter of the late Eduardo and Maria Alfieri Perrone. Mrs. Hopkins was educated in Gloversville schools and as many did during that period of time, left school to begin work. Louise was extremely proud to have returned to education in her 50?s and receive her G.E.D. She was a glove worker, specializing in sewing most of her life. She had been employed at the former Ambroson and Westbrook Glove Companies. She was very proud of her employment with the Green Thumb Program, in her later years, as coordinator for employment of those over 55. A devoted mother and family person, she enjoyed decorating, gardening, cooking and her regular card games with friends. Louise loved antiques and was an avid reader all her life. She was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church and the Catholic Daughters. Louise was pre-deceased by her first husband and the father of her children, Anthony Albanese, who died in 1978. She was also pre-deceased by her second husband, Claude Hopkins in 1990. Survivors include her children, Edwina Burd of Johnstown, Martha Monlea of Rotterdam, Marc Lynn Albanese of Gloversville and Christopher Albanese of San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by two sisters, Claudia DeCristofaro and Olympia Aldi both of Gloversville and three brothers, Edward Perrone of Gloversville, Robert Perrone of Gloversville and Renee Perrone of Schoharie. Louise was very proud of her eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by brothers: Joseph, Mario and Peter Perrone and sisters: Jennie Vetro, Martha Perrella, Theresa Rose, Margaret DeSemione, Blanche Persico, Mary Salvione and Hope Hodlin. Funeral services will be conducted 10 am Friday from the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 pm. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown in the spring. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to St. Jude?s Children?s Cancer Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
