Obituary of Muriel R. Thompson

Mrs. Muriel R. Thompson, 83, of Gloversville, died Saturday at Mountain Valley Hospice House. Mrs. Thompson was born June 8, 1923 in Gloversville, daughter of the late Michael and Goldie Smith Baker. She was educated in Gloversville schools and a graduate of Gloversville High School. She also attended business school. Muriel was employed as a bookkeeper and had worked for J.W. Sission Box Co. and Winig Slipper Corp. She retired from J.W. Sission Box Co. in 1987. A devoted family person, she loved having family and friends at her home and yard where she always enjoyed their pool. Muriel had a longtime passion for crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Gloversville Senior Citizens, a home bureau craft group and the Bleecker Street Church of Christ where she had been past treasurer. Muriel is survived by her husband Donald A. Thompson of Gloversville whom she married September 16, 1945. She is also survived by a daughter; Donna Gray of Amsterdam, two sisters: Winifred Baker and Eleanor Walker both of Gloversville. Muriel leaves three grandchildren; Murene Spraker, Donald Wagar and Valerie Fisher as well as five great grandchildren: Marissa and Randy Spraker, Cameron and Miranda Wagar and Loreal Fisher. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was pre-deceased by a sister: Dorothy Breeding and a brother; Douglas Baker. Funeral services will be conducted 9 am Tuesday from the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street Gloversville with Reverend Sandra Geer, Pastor of the Bleecker Street Church of Christ officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 4:30 to 7 pm. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to Mt. Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville or to the Bleecker Street Church of Christ, 97 Bleecker Street, Gloversville.
