Obituary of Anthony M. Vertucci

Mr. Anthony M. Vertucci, 81, of Prospect Street, Fort Johnson, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born on August 25, 1925 in Fort Johnson, he was the son of the late Pasquale ?Patsy? and Josephine Vertucci. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. Along side his family, Tony worked for over 30 years for Gabriel Contracting. Tony was a hard worker and a loving husband and father and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He loved visiting his friends and family, golfing and supporting his favorite baseball team the St. Louis Cardinals. He was of the catholic faith. Tony also served very proudly with the United States Marines. Once a Marine, Always a Marine, he will be buried along side his fellow comrades. He was predeceased by four sisters, Sue Hermance, Marion Bellen, Eleanor Clairmont, and Lena McCaffrey. His loving family includes, his wife, the former Lestra Gleason, whom he married on June 7, 1953; two daughters, Lynne Semprivivo of Tribes Hill, New York and Valerie Abeling of Fort Johnson, New York; one son, Anthony M. Vertucci Jr. of Brooklyn, New York; four sisters, Katherine St. Amour of Florida, Jane Laychak of Scotia, New York, Vera Stangle of Amsterdam, New York, and Marge Habla of Tribes Hill, New York; three brothers, Gabriel Vertucci and his wife Nancy of Amsterdam, Arthur Vertucci and his wife Bernadette of Fort Johnson, and Alfred Vertucci and his wife Mary of Amsterdam; five grandchildren, Erin Vertucci, Alessi and Angelina Semprivivo, Alyssa and Valerie Abeling; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 11:30a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30p.m. at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam. Interment with full military honors will take place on Tuesday at 11a.m. at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, New York 12871. Calling hours will be held on Friday evening tonight from 5 until 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home.
