Obituary of Helen Goodlander

Helen Hartley Goodlander, 96, passed away Friday Feb. 9, 2007 at the Manor at Penn Village in Selinsgrove after a long illness. Born Helen Katherine Hartley on May 29, 1910, at the Queen Anne Parsonage in Fort Hunter, she lived in this area until moving to Selinsgrove in 1979. She was married in 1932 to John F. MacRoy who died in 1977 and to Roy Goodlander who died in 1997. The couple had twin daughters, Mary Jo LaDuke who died in 1999 and Linda M. Klingensmith who resides in Selinsgrove. In addition, she is survived by two sons in law, Paul E. Klingensmith of Selinsgrove, and Hartley J. LaDuke of Charlotte, N.C.; two granddaughters; Vanessa Jo Klingensmith of Bloomsburg PA andSusan LaDuke of Silver Spring, Md.; a grandson; Matthew H. LaDuke of Monroe Township, NJ; five great grandchildren and six nieces and five nephews. A graduate of Oneonta University and SUNY Albany, Helen taught English and History for many years before she retired. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling to Europe and throughout this country. Her avid reading reflected her many interests; she was an accomplished artist giving many drawings and paintings to friends and family. She also had a lifelong interest in gardening. She was a member of the New York State Teachers Retirement Asso. , the Snyder County Historical Society, Susquehanna Art Society and the Institute For Lifelong Learning. Helen was a member of the St. Paul?s United Church Of Christ in Selinsgrove. Services are Saturday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Spring Interment is in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. Friends and relatives may call after 10:30 am Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Snyder County Libraries Inc., 1 No. High St. Selinsgrove, PA 17837, or a charity of one?s choice.
