Obituary of William J. Engel

William J. Engel, Jr., 82, passed away Thursday February 8, 2007 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. He was born in Amsterdam on November 13, 1924 the son of the late William J. Engel, Sr. and Mary Templeton Engel. Bill served in the United States Army. He worked at General Electric for 34 years as a maintenance painter. He was a member of the American Legion. Bill loved to travel and collect cars. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of twenty years, Lena Smith Engel of Broadalbin; a son and daughter-in-law, John J. O?Such and Leah of Omaha, NE; two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene Schwab and her husband Frank W. III of Galway and Patricia Mary Walsh and her husband Ralph A. Sr. of Manquin, VA; a step-son, Gary Jablonski Sr. and a step-daughter Susan Ann Tolson, both of Amsterdam; eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Bill is predeceased by his first wife, the former Margaret Peg Willey who died March 7, 1983 and two brothers, Hugh R. Engel and George Engel. Calling Hours will be held from 2 to 3 PM Saturday, February 10, 2007 from the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home in Broadalbin. A funeral service will follow at 3PM, officiated by the Rev. Linda Martin from the First Presbyterian Church in Broadalbin. Burial with military honors will be in East Galway Cemetery in the spring.
