Obituary of Robert M. Nichols

Robert M. Nichols 83, of the Rochester Presbyterian Home, formerly of Amsterdam, died Tuesday February 6, 2007 in Rochester, New York. Born in Amsterdam, New York on June 29, 1923, a son of Joseph and Anna Briskie Nichols. He was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. Mr. Nicholas was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II serving in the 59th Fighter Squadron as a radio operator in the China-India-Burma campaign. Mr. Nichols worked as an office manager for a Ford Dealership in Amsterdam and then finished his career as office manager for the United Welding Co. in Amsterdam. He moved to Rochester 3 years ago to be near his two daughters. He was a parishioner of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He married Norma S. Payne Nichols on April 3, 1948. She passed away on August 9, 1983. Robert enjoyed his family and being with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, big band music and golfing. Mr. Nichols is survived by, two daughters; Pamela Peter and her husband David of Webster, NY, Lisa Standinger and her husband John of Rochester, New York. Two sisters, Eleanor Nichols of East Greenbush, New York and Mary Dygon of Amsterdam. Five grandchildren, Megan Peter, Andrew Peter, Cody Standinger, Claire Standinger and Ian Standinger. A niece, Carol Colby of Webster, NY. He was pre-deceased by a special friend Shirley Fitzgerald who passed away last year. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday February 10, 2007 at 8:30A.M .at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15A.M. at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, Main St., Amsterdam. Full military honors will be held at the church following the Mass on Saturday. Interment will be in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY.
