Obituary of Theresa Villodas

Theresa Villodas 100, formerly of the High Rise Apartments, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility. Born in Utica, New York on October 21, 1906, she was the eldest of six children of John and Eva Pell Villodas. Theresa graduated from Rome High School in 1924. She lived in Amsterdam since 1950, and was employed as a domestic for the Mortan Guttenberg family. Following her retirement in 1970, she began to deliver the Recorder for her fellow residents in the High Rise which she continued until she was in her nineties. She loved to sing, and for many years traveled with her church choir. Theresa also taught Sunday School, and will always be remembered as a kind and loving person. In 1930, she married Harold Ray of Cobleskill, he passed away in 1948. Also, her last remaining sibling, Gertrude, predeceased her in 1993. This past October, she was feted by her dear friends with a party at the Wilkinson Center on the occasion of her 100th birthday. She cherished all the many citations from the President, State and local legislators and the many greetings from her friends. Theresa is survived by several friends, including Donald and Eileen MacVean of Amsterdam. A Service will take place on Wednesday evening at 7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. The Rev. Greg DeSalvatore officiating. Interment will take place on Thursday at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 pm on Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Bear Hug Fund, in care of the funeral home.
