Obituary of Ronald Redmond

Mr. Ronald Redmond, age 71, of Broadalbin, died Wednesday evening, January 24, 2007 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 25, 1935 in Amsterdam, the son of the late James and Stella Brizzee Redmond. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert. Ron graduated from Wilbur Lynch High School, Amsterdam and the G.E. Apprentice Course. He served in the U.S. Army following the Korean Conflict. He worked at Empire Devices and MTI before returning to G.E. where he worked for 30 years. His last position was in Manufacturing Engineering, Large Steam Turbine Department. After retiring Ron and his wife travelled extensively across the United States and also in Europe. He shared his love of photography with friends, recently photographing Broadalbin and the surrounding area from the air. Ron began woodcarving after his retirement and specialized in ?Love Spoons? creating over 100 original designs. A scrollsaw clock which he completed this summer was on display in the Broadalbin village during the month of December. Ron was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin, the Amsterdam Masonic Lodge, Mohawk Wood Carving Association, the Scrollsaw Association, the G.E. Apprentice Association and the Northeastern Woodworkers Association. He was Past President of the Kennyetto Fire Dept. He is survived by his wife, Ardel Brooks Redmond; two sons, David Redmond and Jane Ringlee of Piseco and Donald and Deborah Redmond of Broadalbin; two honorary grandsons, Owen King and Callum King; a sister, Arlene Keller and her husband Ronald of Tennessee; several nieces, nephews, and his beloved grand-dog, Charley. The family is especially appreciative of the care Ron received from NYOH, Gloversville, Dr. Vacek and the staff at Nathan Littauer Hospital. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7pm Friday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30am Saturday with the Rev. Linda Martin officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. Ron had a special admiration for the Christmas Bellringers of the Salvation Army.
