Obituary of Francis G. Dimond

Francis G. Dimond, 82, of Fonda, New York, passed away Monday January 15, 2007 at his home. Born in Fonda, New York on December 30, 1924 a son of Roy C. and Sarah Stevens Dimond. He was a lifelong resident of the Fonda and Fultonville area. He attended Fonda High School and was a 1943 graduate of Fultonville High School. Mr. Dimond was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II serving in the 2nd Indianhead Division. He was wounded in combat during the D-Day invasion in Normandy where he received a Purple Heart. Following the war, Francis graduated from Syracuse University with a Political Science Degree with a minor in Psychology. He went to work in the private sector and became the owner/operator along with his father of the Fond-Fult Lumber Company. During that time he was also a building contractor and operated F.G. Dimond, Inc. until 1973. Mr. Dimond was a Town Justice for the Town of Mohawk in 1953 and later became Supervisor of the town. He was also the former Montgomery County Democratic Party Chairman. In 1973 he became the Commissioner of the Montgomery County Social Services Department before retiring in 1983. He was a communicant of St. Cecilia?s Roman Catholic Church in Fonda. He was also a member of many Veterans groups in the area. He was a member of the Irish American Association and the Fonda Fire Department Snell Hose Co. #2. He married D. Dorine Oliver Dimond on February 8, 1953. In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Roy S. Dimond Karen of Canajoharie, New York and three grandchildren, Chelsea Kay Dimond, Marc and Sarah Wyzomirski. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Mr. Dimond was predeceased by his daughter, Francine Dimond Wyzomirski on March 31, 2005. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2007 at 10:00AM at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, NY followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM at St. Cecilia?s Roman Catholic Church, Broadway, Fonda, NY. Interment will be in Maple Ave Cemetery, Fultonvile. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, January 18, 2007 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The Glen-Mohawk Seniors will meet at 3:30PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Cecilia?s Church, P.O. Box 837, Fonda, NY 12068 or to the Shrine of the Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, State Hwy 5, Fonda, N.Y. 12068.
