Obituary of Juergen Vollertsen

Juergen Vollertsen, 69, of Northville, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY. Son of Johannes and Irma Lindner Vollertsen, he was born on October 25, 1937 in Schleswig, Germany. He apprenticed as a Chef at Kieler Kaufmann from 1955-1957. In 1958, he began his career as a chef serving on both the TS Hanseatic and the SS United States, which operated cruises from New York to Europe. In 1965, he was the proprietor of Juergen's Tavern, later known as The Woodsman Inn, Town of Day, NY. In 1967, he established the Sacandaga Novelty Company, presently Sacandaga Vending, Northville, NY. As a real estate developer he developed Juergens Point and built the Park Townhouses in Sacandaga Park. He owned and operated Juergen's Department Store, Northville, NY. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 31 years, Helga Rades Vollertsen, who passed away on July 14, 1993. He was also predeceased by his parents. Survivors include his loving children, Gaby Schubert and her husband Eckhard, of Kiel, Germany, Sandy Vollertsen, of Gloversville, NY, Sonja Vollertsen and Lisa Muscatello of Paul Smiths, NY. Five grandchildren include Blake C. Sheils, Jacqueline and Patrick Kennedy of Gloversville, NY, Janne and Jette Schubert of Keil, Germany. He is also survived by his sister Inge Tetzlaff and her husband, Ernst and his brother Peter Vollertsen and wife Margot, three nieces and one nephew all of Germany. He is also survived by his companion of thirteen years, Jan Turling of Amsterdam, NY. Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday January 2, 2007 from 4-7 pm at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday January 3, 2007 at 11 am at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. L. David Almleaf officiating. Memorial contributions many be made in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd; Loudonville, NY 12211.
