Obituary of Samuel M. Hartman

Mr. Samuel M. Hartman Jr; age 92, of Hillcrest Adult Home, Amsterdam, NY, died Friday evening, December 8, 2006 at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born September 1, 1914 in Bridgeport, IL, one of three children to the late Samuel M. Sr. and Mary Leitzel Hartman. A 1934 graduate of Bolivar High School Bolivar, NY he served in the Army during World War II from 1942 to 1947 in Panama, Paris and Vienna. When Mr. Hartman returned from the war he lived in Cuba, NY until 1956 when he moved to Little Falls. He resided in Gloversville from 1959 until 1975 when he moved to Franklinville, and then returned to Gloversville in 1994. He was employed as a meat cutter by Acme Food Market in Gloversville. He also worked at SaveWay, which later became P&C Foods. Sam was married on December 23, 1945 to Harriet E. Brown who died in March of 1993. He is survived by two sons, Samuel M. Hartman III Mary of Felicity, OH and Robert P. Hartman Bonita of Broadalbin, NY; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends friends from 4 to 5 pm Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 5 pm with the Rev. Wayne E. Jones Sr. officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Maplehurst Cemetery, Hinsdale, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Health Center Foundation, 2-8 W. Main Street; Johnstown, NY 12095.
