Obituary of Harry E. Carter

Mr. Harry E. Carter, Jr., 56, of Mayfield, died suddenly on Wednesday at St. Mary?s Hospital, Amsterdam. He was born June 28, 1950 in Gloversville, son of the late Harry E. and Mildred Morrison Carter, Sr. Mr. Carter was a 1968 graduate of Mayfield High School and had been employed at Apex Leather in Johnstown for 35 years. Known as a ?jack of all trades? and ?master of all? as well, Harry made lasting friendships his entire life. He especially enjoyed camping with family and friends at Peck Lake, where he was affectionately referred to as ?the mayor of Peck Lake?. An avid outdoorsman, Harry has fished and hunted most of his life and was a member of the Pine Tree Rifle Club. His many activities were always surrounded by family and home. He is survived by his wife, Susan Smith Carter of Mayfield, whom he married September 28, 1968. Harry is also survived by his children: Janet Christman of Mayfield and her fiancé Rick Dickinson and William Carter of Amsterdam and his fiancée Caslie Thum. Additional survivors include his sisters and brothers: Linda Hudson Gerald of Fort Plain, Joann Tymchyn of Mayfield, and Marion Barber Corey of Mayfield, Robert Carter Judy of Mayfield, and Ronald Carter of Fort Plain, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 10 am Saturday from the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, with Reverend R.W. Williams, officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7-9 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mayfield Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield.
