Obituary of Joseph W. VanWie

Joseph W. VanWie, 63, of State Highway 30, Town of Florida, New York passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam after being stricken at home. He was born October 8, 1943 in Amsterdam, New York. He was the son of the late Joseph I. and Mary Wallin VanWie. Joseph was raised in Albany and was a graduate of Albany High School and later moved back to Amsterdam forty years ago. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the US Air Force National Guard. Joseph was employed by the General Electric Company in Schenectady as a machinist in the Turbine Department until he retired in 1995. He was a former member of the Schenectady IUE Union. He attended St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church. Joseph was a very talented woodworker. He loved photography, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren and his dog Kodi. On October 8, 1966 he married the former Antoinette Auriemma. Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Joseph P. VanWie of the Town of Florida; two daughters, Kim M. Kelly and her husband Joseph of the Town of Florida and Sherri VanWie of Rotterdam; three grandchildren, Joshua, Michael and Briana Kelly; nieces, nephews, cousins and two aunts also survive. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Burial will take place in St. Michaels Cemetery in Amsterdam. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
