Obituary of Mary Jane DelCostello

Mary Jane DelCostello, 76, of Lincoln Avenue, passed away Tuesday morning at Ellis Hospital with family at her side. Born in Amsterdam on August 1, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Josephine Cassone Neri; she attended local schools and lived here her entire life. She was employed by Mohawk Carpets for a time, and was the housekeeper for St. Michael?s Rectory. Mary Jane was last employed as a glove maker for Amsterdam Glove Company. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the former Convent Auxiliary. A wonderful baker, Mary Jane was always called upon by family and friends for her delicious cookies and Italian baked goods for weddings and showers, which she lovingly shared. She and her husband loved to make homemade pasta and, as the center of her family, enjoyed having them gather at her table. On June 4, 1950, she was united in marriage to Carmen DelCostello. In addition to her beloved husband of fifty-six years, she leaves her son, Philip A. DelCostello and his fiancé Karen Seeley; her daughter, Donna and her husband Charles Krajewski all of Amsterdam; her grandchildren, Renee and her husband Ryan Pacillo, Sara DelCostello, Lindsay and Todd Krajewski; her great-grandson, Anthony Pacillo; a brother, Bruno B. Neri of Dover, Delaware; and a sister, Diana Neri of Albany; her aunts, Mary LaBate, Bianca Doesburgh and Frances Picinich all of Amsterdam, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Services are Friday at 8:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church with Fr. Pascal A. Iannotti, celebrant. Interment is in St. Michael?s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in her name to the Amsterdam Dialysis Center or the Ellis Hospital Foundation, both in care of the funeral home office.
