Obituary of Raymond J. Dybas

Raymond J. Dybas, 81, of Duncan Lane, Johnstown, passed away Sunday morning at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Born August 30, 1925 in Amsterdam, New York, he was the son of the late Stephen and Katherine Lyczko Dybas. He lived most of his life in Amsterdam until moving to Johnstown in 1995. Raymond was a 1943 graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII where he served in the Asiatic Theatre as a Gunners Mate Second Class and received a star medal for his service. He owned and operated with his late wife Florence the former Grum?s Grill on Grand Street in Amsterdam and later he was employed for the State of New York in the Bill Drafting Department in Albany where he worked and repaired computers until retiring in 1992. Raymond was a former member of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors. He was a former golfer and until recently was a bowler and bowled at Imperial Lanes in Amsterdam and the Parry Lanes in Johnstown. On October 12, 1947 he first married Florence Grum Dybas who died April 29, 1990. On September 3, 1994, he married Fran Miller. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Sandra Falcone and her husband John of Norfolk, Virginia; a step-son, Eric ?Rick? Miller and his wife Lisa of Fort Pain, New York; a step-daughter, Suzanne Leavitt and her husband Raymond of Palatine, New York; a sister, Dorothy Lasky of Amsterdam; two grandchildren, Nathaniel Falcone and Brad Falcone; a great grandson, Christopher Falcone; six step-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; a niece, Patty Waterson of Loudonville, New York; and a nephew, Bob Reidy of Amsterdam. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:00 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Stanley Swierzowski officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Amsterdam. A calling hour will take place on Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
