Obituary of Joseph L. Peluso

Joseph L. Peluso, Sr., 90, formerly of Main Street, Fonda, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital. He had been a resident of the Montgomery Meadows Health Care Facility. Born in Ft. Johnson on February 10, 1916, he was the son of Salvatore and Vincenza LaPenna Peluso, he was educated and lived in this area his entire life. He had been employed by Fonda Manufacturing Company for thirty-two years, and later for General Electric in Schenectady as a roater balancer until he retired in 1978. He then worked in a part time capacity for the National Shrine of North American Martyrs in Auriesville. During World War II, he served with the US Army as a military policeman in Europe. He was a member of the American Legion Post 383 of Fonda and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie of Johnstown. Joseph was a lifelong communicant of St. Cecilia?s Roman Catholic Church. His beloved wife, the former Eleanor Leonard, whom he married on September 29, 1942, predeceased him on December 20, 2003. Also, a son, Joseph L. Peluso, Jr., who passed away on October 6, 1988 and a brother, Anthony Peluso, predeceased him. His loving family includes his son, Salvatore and his wife Jane Peluso of Richmond, Virginia; his daughter in law, Lynn Peluso Taylor of West Coxackie; three grandchildren, Thomas Peluso, Anna Marie Cooper and Elizabeth Cottrell; a brother, Alexander Peluso of Tribes Hill, New York and two sisters, Laura Riccardi of Fultonville, New York and Concetta Guiffre of Tribes Hill, New York as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services are Friday morning at 10:30 am at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Cecilia?s Church with the Rev. Patrick Gallagher, OFM Conv. celebrant. Interment is in St. Cecilia?s Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home from 9:30 until 10:30. Contributions may be made to St. Cecilia?s Church, or to the Auriesville Shrine, both in care of the funeral home.
