Obituary of Durant M. Friday

Mr. Durant M. Friday, age 95 of Gloversville, died Friday afternoon, September 15, 2006 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. He was born August 29, 1911 in Amsterdam, the son of the late Morris F. and Ida M. Pagel Friday. A 1928 graduate of Amsterdam High School, he attended Syracuse University and Hartwick College. He also took work-related courses at Union College. During World War II, he worked as a cost accountant at General Electric Company in Schenectady. For 32 years he was employed by the NYS Dept. of Labor through its Utica and Albany offices, where he retired as Senior Investigator/Auditor in 1976. Mr. Friday was a member of Foothills United Methodist Church. At the former Fremont Street United Methodist Church he was Chairman of the Board of Trustees and an Administrative Board member. He served as president of the 1793 Club of the former Kingsborough Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Gloversville Masonic Lodge #429 since 1944, and served as its Master in the 1950?s. A member of the Adirondack Shrine Club, he was also a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Right of Schenectady, and the Cypress Temple of Albany. He was Past Patron of Cayadutta Chapter #166 Order of The Eastern Star, and was Past Associate Grand Sentinel of the Grand Chapter of the OES in 1988. He served on the Advancement Committee of the Sir William Johnson Boy Scout Council for 25 years, was a life member of the New York State PTA, and was past president of the Boulevard School PTA. He was also a member of the YMCA, the Triangle Club, and a former member of the Gloversville Lions Club. Survivors include his wife of over 66 years, Margaret Fanch Friday, whom he married on March 2, 1940. Additional survivors include his daughter, Gayle ?Stormy? Friday Bradley James K. of Arnold, MD; a grandson, Kerry K. Bradley Nicole; and two great-grandsons, Alexander Bradley and Christopher Bradley. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Monday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a Masonic Service will take place at 5:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday with the Rev. Wayne E. Jones Sr. officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to Foothills United Methodist Church, 17 Fremont St; Gloversville, or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
