Obituary of Geraldine Gallup

Geraldine ?Gerri? Austin Gallup of Gloversville passed away on September 10, 2006 at Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility at 74 years of age. Gerry was born on January 1st 1932 in Gloversville to the late Roy Austin Sr. and Daisy Kimball Austin. She graduated from Gloversville High School in the class of 1950. Her first job was a part time candy striper at the old Nathan Littauer Hospital. After graduation, she worked at the hospital full time until 1951. She married Ralph E. Gallup on September 8, 1951. Shortly thereafter they moved to Washington D.C. where she worked at Woodward and Lathrop Department Store until 1952, when they returned to the area. After moving back, she returned to her true love and calling. She worked at local nursing homes until 1962, when she returned to Nathan Littauer Hospital. There she spent 32 years caring for everyone she encountered, which, in 1990 earned her NLH?s employee of the year award. She was affectionately nicknamed ?Snowy? by her friends and co-workers for her snow white hair and bright smile. She retired as a nurses aide in 1994. Gerri was predeceased by her oldest son Randy in 1973. She is survived by her husband Ralph of 55 years, and her 4 children, Linda Hastings, Robert Gallup Margaret, Richard Gallup and Karen Kessler, all of Gloversville. She is also survived by two sisters, Rita Patterson of Copperas Cove, Texas and Gail Austin of Gloversville; her brother, Roy Austin Jr. of Gloversville; along with 7 grandchildren, Connie, Lisa, Jason, Jessica, Nicholas, Stephanie and Kristen; 4 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Damien, Jeremiah and Jena; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at Kobuskie - Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, with the Rev. Wayne E. Jones Sr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 85 Watervliet Ave; Albany, NY 12206 or to the charity of your choice
