Obituary of David H. Clairmont

David H. Clairmont, 77, of Hempton Street, passed away early Monday morning at Albany Medical Center Hospital with his family at his side. Born in Amsterdam on December 4, 1928, he was the son of the late Henry and Florence Burtt Clairmont. He lived here his entire life and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He then entered the US Marine Corps and served as a Private First Class during peacetime in China. Upon his return, he began a career as an electrician, first as an apprentice for Mohasco, and then later in the family?s business, the former Moller Electric Company. He began his own business, Ace Electric in Scotia and retired in 1994 from the Greater Amsterdam School District as an electrician. David was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to garden, fish and hunt. He also was active in Scouting, and organized the scout camping trips. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow, the US Marine Corps League and also the John J. Wyzsomirski Post 701 American Legion. He was of the Roman Catholic faith. On Feb. 18, 1949 he was united in marriage to the former Mary Ann Moller. In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, David F. Janice Woodruff Clairmont of Dover, Delaware, Glenn Lori Dietrick Clairmont of Amsterdam and Kathryn Ann French of Broadalbin; his brothers, Paul Clairmont of Schenectady and Eric Clairmont of Fayetteville, NC; a sister, Bettina Schmaeh of Tribes Hill; granddaughters, Kimberly Gemberling, Kelly Clairmont and Amy French; a great granddaughter, Katelynn Gemberling, as well as nieces and nephews. Services are Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Interment is in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson. A calling hour will begin at 12 noon, prior to the service at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc. in care of the funeral home.
