Obituary of Anthony J. Savoie

Anthony J. Savoie, 79, formerly of State Highway 161, Town of Florida, New York passed away Wednesday evening at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, New York on March 8, 1927 a son of Frank and Alice Bruso Savoie. He was a lifelong resident of the Amsterdam area. He attended St. Joseph?s Roman Catholic School in Amsterdam. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II serving in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatres. Mr. Savoie was employed for over 20 years for Montgomery County, first with the Highway Department and then as the Superintendent of Building and Grounds retiring in 1982. He was a former member of the Canajoharie-Fort Plain VFW and was of the Roman Catholic Faith. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren Alex and Casey and was an avid hunter and enjoyed woodworking and history. He married Hazel Abrams Savoie on July 4, 1948 she passed away on May 22, 1995. Survivors include one son, James Savoie and his wife Patricia of Town of Florida, NY; one daughter, Janice Hopkins and her companion Thomas Primeau of Broadalbin, NY; one brother, Robert Savoie of Perth, NY; two sisters, Doris Hart of Fonda and Helene Toots Woodford of Perth, NY and two grandchildren, Alex Hopkins and Kayce Savoie. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday August 22, 2006 at 11:00a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY. Interment will be in Chuctanunda Cemetery, Town of Florida, NY with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday August 21, 2006 from 4:00-7:00P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Plain VFW Post #32, River St., Fort Plain, NY 13339.
