Obituary of Albert J. Tagliaferri

Mr. Albert J. Tagliaferri, age 95, died Friday evening, July 20, 2006 at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam, NY. He was born February 14, 1911 in Gloversville, the son of the late John and Rosina Materazzo Tagliaferri. He was a graduate of Johnstown High School, and attended Niagra University. Albert was employed as a salesman for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for many years until the 1950?s. He later became circulation manager at the Schenectady Union Star in the 1960?s. He then worked a s a salesman at Grand Rapids Furniture in Gloversville and Amsterdam. He was co-owner and operator of Carm?s Pizza Take Out for several years, and was a salesman for many years at Livingston?s Furniture in Gloversville until he was 90 years of age. Mr. Tagliaferri was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Johnstown, where he served as a trustee and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #239, Johnstown, and a member of Pine Tree Rifle Club. He is survived by his wife, Carmela Generoso Tagliaferri, whom he married on September 5, 1943. He is also survived by three children, John V. Tagliaferri Katherine of Gloversville, Rosemary Tagliaferri Gnip Louis of Ballston Spa and Maria Tagliaferri-Markiewicz Richard of Saratoga; six grandchildren, John Tagliaferri II, Jason Tagliaferri, Holly Gnip, Devon Gnip Sherman, Winter Gnip and Ashley Gnip; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Sherman and Capri Annabella Tagliaferri; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Tagliaferri. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Sunday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted 9:00 am Monday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, Johnstown. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association, 85 Watervliet Ave; Albany, NY 12206.
