Obituary of David J. Bonafede

David J. Bonafede, 75, of Pleasant Avenue, passed away Monday afternoon at St. Mary?s Hospital with his family at his side. Born June 15, 1931 in Syracuse, the only child of Thomas and Eleanor Webb Bonafede, he attended Amsterdam Schools and was a 1949 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1952 with the rank of seaman apprentice. On September 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Margaret ?Peggy? Bradt Bonafede. Mr. Bonafede was a talented vocalist, and spent time in his earlier years in California, appearing in theater productions and working on the set of several motion pictures. Upon his return to Amsterdam, he was employed by Mohawk Carpets, the Mohican Market and Joes? Market, and retired after twenty five years from the General Electric Company. He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. Devoted to his family, he enjoyed going to the movies, rooting for the Yankees, Bills, Vikings and Notre Dame?s Fighting Irish. He loved to play cards with his wife, to whom he usually lost. In addition to his beloved wife Peggy, he leaves a legacy of love to two sons: Thomas Bonafede and his wife Nancy of Fonda, and William Bonafede and his wife Melissa of Kenmore, New York; six grandchildren: Michael Bonafede of Fonda, John Leduc of Goffstown, New Hampshire, Jeremy Leduc of Moira, New York, Tamara Pierce of Johnstown, Jason Leduc of Fonda and Tracy Lewandowski of Fultonville; ten great grandchildren, his godchild, Monica Miller of Iowa, nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends, including Karen and Heather Dearborn, who became a daughter and granddaughter to him. Services are Saturday at 9:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Fr. Pascal A. Iannotti officiating. Interment will follow in St. Michael?s Cemetery with military honors. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in care of the funeral home, Amsterdam 12010.
