Obituary of Robert M. Patterson

Mr. Robert M. ?Red? Patterson Sr., 87 of Gloversville, died Friday at Nathan Litttauer Hospital. Born March 4, 1919 in Little Falls, he was the son of the late Glenn H. and Hazel M. Patterson. Mr. Patterson moved to Gloversville as a child and was educated in local schools. Bob was a truck driver much of his life. A profession he was very proud of. He began driving for Eastern Auto of Buffalo and also spent many years as a driver for Fiber Conversion. At one time he was also a member of the Gloversville Auxilary Police. Bob was superintendent of Fern Dale Cemetery in Johnstown for twenty years, position for which he was highly respected and appreciated. Early in life, Bob enjoyed hunting and was an amateur ham radio operator. He had always been a great fan of the famous clown Emmett Kelly, and had accumulated quite a memorabilia collection. Although extremely hard working and always ready to lend a helping hand, Bob mostly enjoyed his family closeness and the many friendships he had made through the years. Survivors include his wife; Dora Perham Patterson of Gloversville whom he married June 17, 1939.His children: Robert M. Patterson Jr. Gail, Ronald ?Pete? Patterson Linda, Darla Rowley, Gregory Patterson Billie, Deborah Baird all of Gloversville, Eric Patterson Andrea of Johnstown and Michele Iorio Ralph of Gloversville. He is also survived by a sister Harriett Schuyler of Orlando, Fla. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Bob was pre-deceased by two daughters: Dr. Dawn Patterson and Stephanie Del Signore. He was also pre-deceased by a brother; Harvey Patterson a grandson, Shawn Rowley and by a son-in-law, Dick Baird. Funeral services will be conducted 2 pm Monday, July 17th from the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street with Reverend Paul Butler officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-5 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
